ABSTRACT
In my works, I create layers of automatic drawings in mixed media whilst listening to music. The drawings appear tangled and complex - as is each of our lives; they involve struggle but also possess an energy and joy because being human is not one thing or another but a combination of many things.
The layers of each drawing work as a metaphor - both on a personal level to suggest the many dimensions to myself as well as on a larger scale representing the numerous levels on which life occurs. Like our human lives, many of the drawings overlap, some obscure those beneath - yet others reveal them. I work with mixed media, reflecting these interactions in the ways the media react with each other.
I feel music is deeply rooted in my identity and how I express myself and I value it as a bridge to build connections with others. In my work, I use music as an enhancer for my emotions, each work is unique because although we experience things multiple times I believe we never experience them in exactly the same way. Each drawing is a snapshot in time expressing the abstract concepts of music and emotion.
